The character, “Mona”, was based off of Grace when she was a child. Though she wasn’t severely overweight, the kids around her made her feel that way. This is what led to the over-dramatization of Mona’s belly in “Marvelous Mona and her journey to self love.” That is how Grace saw herself when she looked into the mirror. Looking back on these pictures made her realize that she did not look, “as big as a manatee”, like one of the girls she knew proclaimed her to be. Regardless, no one should dictate how you should feel about yourself. Simply love yourself and those around you.
